Prof. Ruslan Mitkov is Professor of Computational Linguistics and Language Engineering and Head of the Research Group in Computational Linguistics and Director of the Research Institute of Information and Language Processing. He received his PhD in Computer Science at the Technical University Dresden, Germany, in 1987 and has been working in (applied) Natural Language Processing and related areas since the early 1980s. He is Executive Editor of the Journal Natural Language Engineering (Cambridge University Press), Editor of the Handbook of Computational Linguistics (Oxford University Press) and Editor of John Benjamins series in Natural Language Processing. His extensively cited research output (more than 200 publications including 9 books) and interests cover areas including but not limited to anaphora resolution, automatic generation of multiple-choice tests, machine translation and translation memory systems. Mitkov has been Chair of the Programme Committee of several international conferences. He has developed a successful research group, which is already known for its innovative research in different areas of the field and for its NLP tools and resources.
