International Workshop on Interpreting Technologies

Prof. Enrique Alba works as a Full Professor at the University of Málaga (Spain, having a long teaching experience in distributed/parallel programming, software quality, evolutionary computing, bases for R+D+i and smart cities, both at graduate and master/doctoral levels. Prof. Alba leads an international team of researchers in the field of complex optimization/learning with applications in industry, smart cities, bioinformatics, software engineering, telecoms, and others. In addition to the organization of numerous ACM/IEEE international events, Prof. Alba has offered dozens of postgraduate courses, delivered more than 80 seminars in international institutions, and directed many research projects (9 with national funds, 7 in Europe, and numerous bilateral actions). Also, Prof. Alba has directed 12 projects for innovation in and has worked as invited professor at INRIA, Luxembourg, Ostrava, Scotland, Japan, Argentina, Cuba, Uruguay, and Mexico. He has served as editor in several international journals and book series of Springer-Verlag and Wiley, as well has reviewed articles for more than 30 impact journals. He is included in the list of most prolific DBLP authors, and has published more than130 articles in journals indexed by ISI, 11 books, and hundreds of communications in proceedings of peer-reviewed scientific conferences. He is included in the top five most relevant researchers in Informatics in Spain (according to ISI), and is the most influent researcher of UMA in engineering (webometrics), with 14 awards to his professional activities. Pr. Alba’s H index is 68, with more than 21,000 cites to his work. He is now working at the European ERC as a Seconded National Expert in computer science.

Dr. phil. Eva-Maria Leitner holds a degree in Interpreting from the Center for Translation Sciences, University of Vienna and she has founded mss language solutions in 1994. The language services company has specialized in translation and interpreting for the fields of technology, natural and medical sciences, medical technology and legal texts as well as in software localization. From the very beginning, the main focus in her work was put on project and quality management in language services which was as well the topic of her doctoral thesis “Comprehensive Quality Management in Translation”. From 2006 until 2010 she was lecturer at the Center for Translation Sciences teaching “Translation Management, Project and Quality Management in translation”. Another quite important aspect of her professional life has been standards for the language services industry. Since 2011 she has been Head of the Austrian Delegation in ISO TC 37 SC5.

Fred Blain is an Assistant Professor in AI in the Department of Cognitive Science and AI at Tilburg University, NL. His academic interests lie in the field of Machine Translation, with a strong interest for Quality Estimation, a topic he has now worked on for many years, in the scope of several EU projects (namely MateCAT, QT21, BrowserMT). Recently, Fred has been widening his research interests to the fields of Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction, with applications to Machine Translation and Human Interpreting.

Dora Murgu is a language services professional with a unique journey from being a conference interpreter to her current role as Global Head of Operations and Client Delivery at Interprefy. Hailing from Romania and honing her skills in Spain, she became a driving force behind the development of a groundbreaking OPI training program, subsequently adopted by Spanish universities. With 16 years of experience in the language service industry, working with major LSPs and RSI providers, Dora now spearheads Interprefy's Operations, solidifying her reputation in the fast-evolving world of interpretation and language solutions.

Sabine Braun is a Professor of Translation Studies, Director of the Centre for Translation Studies, and Co-Director (FASS) of the Surrey Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence at the University of Surrey in the UK. From 2017 to 2021 she also served as Associate Dean for Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Surrey.

Her research explores the integration and interaction of human and machine in translation and interpreting, for example to improve access to critical information, media content and vital public services such as healthcare and justice for linguistic-minority populations and other groups/people in need of communication support. Her overarching interest lies in the notions of fairness, trust, transparency, and quality in relation to technology use in these contexts.

Jun PAN (Janice) is Associate Professor in the Department of Translation, Interpreting, and Intercultural Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University, where she also holds the positions of Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Arts and Associate Head of the Department. She serves as Co-editor of Bandung: Journal of the Global South and Review Editor of The Interpreter and Translator Trainer.

Working as an interpreter for many years, Dr. Pan has dedicated herself to the teaching and research of interpreting and translation, covering a wide array of subjects including corpus-based translation/interpreting studies, political discourse and translation/interpreting, digital humanities, learner factors & situated learning in interpreter training, bibliometric research in translation/interpreting studies, professionalism in translation/interpreting, etc. Her major work includes a 6.5-million-word corpus on Chinese/English political interpreting and translation (https://digital.lib.hkbu.edu.hk/cepic/).

Dr. Pan is also President of the Hong Kong Translation Society and Founder of Enter-Link.
