Se llaman dientes supernumerarios a la presencia de un número de dientes superior al normal en el arco dental. Los dientes supernumerarios son asintomáticos y se encuentran en revisiones en el dentista. Son dientes que aparecen de forma adicional al número de piezas de la dotación dental normal (que es de 20 dientes deciduos o «de leche» y 32 permanentes).

Supernumerary teeth are defined as those in addition to the normal series of deciduous or permanent dentition. They may occur anywhere in the mouth. They may appear as a single tooth or multiple teeth, unilaterally or bilaterally, erupted or impacted and in mandible/maxilla or both the jaws.
El abordaje más habitual de los dientes supernumerarios es la exodoncia, aunque en ocasiones se debe complementar con tratamiento ortodóncico.

Some clinicians have reported that important pathologies, such as supernumerary teeth, have been missed on DPT radiographs owing to the narrow focal trough in the anterior maxillary region.
